Reddit is one of the most popular social media platforms, but unlike Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, many of its users prefer to remain anonymous. While Reddit doesn’t require much to create an account, your browsing activity is still logged when you’re signed in.
You can work around this by signing out of your account when you want to browse anonymously, but signing in and out of accounts can be a hassle. Thankfully, browsing Reddit anonymously is easy and there’s even a feature built into the mobile app for it.
In this article, we’ll show you how to anonymously browse Reddit on your Android, iPhone, or PC.
What Does Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing do?
The Anonymous Browsing feature in the Reddit mobile app allows you to browse reddit without your activity being associated to your Reddit account. It’s like logging out Reddit and browsing while not signed in, but is far more convenient.
While browsing Reddit anonymously, Reddit will not keep track of your search history, which posts you’ve viewed, or use your activity to personalize your experience. Whatever you do while browsing anonymously is completely forgotten when you exit Anonymous Browsing.
Anonymous Browsing is like using Reddit without an account in more ways than one. While anonymous browsing, you also won’t have the ability to do things that require an account. This includes upvoting, downvoting, joining communities, posting, awarding, etc.
It’s a small price to pay for privacy, however, and you can still view everything Reddit has to offer. You can always create an alternate account and add it to Reddit if you want to anonymously interact with others.
How to Browse Anonymously in the Reddit Mobile App
To browse Reddit anonymously in the Reddit mobile app, you’ll need to turn on Anonymous Browsing. You can do this by tapping your Avatar
in the upper right corner of your screen, tapping your username, then finally tapping Anonymous Browsing
.
Here’s how, step-by-step:
- Open the Reddit mobile app and sign into your account.
- Tap your
Avatar
in the upper right corner of your screen and then tap your username under your custom Snoo. - In the menu that appears, tap
Anonymous Browsing
at the bottom. - You’ll then be switched into Anonymous Browsing mode where you can anonymously browse Reddit as if you aren’t signed in at all.
To exit Anonymous Browsing, tap the Avatar
in the upper right corner and select Leave Anonymous Browsing
in the window that appears. This window also appears any time you attempt to do something that requires an account.
How to Browse Reddit Anonymously on PC
The Anonymous Browsing feature found in the Reddit mobile app is not yet available for PC, but you can get nearly identical results by simply using an Incognito window in your favorite web browser.
Here’s how you can anonymously browse Reddit using an Incognito window in Google Chrome:
- Open Google Chrome and click the
3 dots
in the upper right corner of your screen. - Select
New Incognito window
in the menu that appears. - Navigate to reddit.com and start browsing, but make sure not to sign in.
When you’re finished, simply close the Incognito window and none of your activity will be logged in your browser’s history. Keep in mind, however, that Incognito mode only clears your browser’s history, cookies, and site date, and it’s not fully anonymous browsing.
